“Raimund Burke sent me his Christmas album right out of the blue with an accompanying letter requesting me to give him a quote. I opened the link, had a listen and found my foot tapping incessantly to the boppy grooves of some of the hardest rocking Christmas songs I’ve ever heard and though I don’t really listen to heavy metal, I actually listened to every track in it’s entirety. There is humour leaking out of grungy bass riffs and finely played precision in both the pyrotechnics of his guitar soloing as well as the slinky jazz undertones of tracks like White Christmas, that hilariously does not disappoint and instead, suddenly breaks down to say “cut the crap, we’re here to play rock!” (in German of course). There’s even a lilting touch of a country twang on the waltz groove of “Oh Silent Night” and beautifully executed blues guitar on Deck the Halls that cascades into a fury of goth rock. This is a well produced and thoughtful collection of songs that I foresee will find their way into films, commercials, people’s homes, ipods as well as hearts. Bravo… and Merry Christmas, and oh yeah, it’s my birthday too!!! “

Raimund’s CD clearly shows that his playing is up to par with the best of them. The production is great and puts him up front and center where he should be. His neoclassical influences are very clear and a certain Mr. Malmsteen has seen a few rotations in Raimund’s CD player. I especially like his tone which is very rich, yet Strat-like and earthy. It is easy to relate to the notes and experience the emotions that were clearly put into the playing. I would clearly recommend this album to all fans of instrumental guitar rock.
“Holy flying crap” This guy can not only play, many other guitar player are technically accomplished as well, but Raimund clearly shows that speed and virtuosity is just one aspect of music. Tone is another one and tone he has. I just love listening to a single note with just the right bend, just the right vibrato and that certain feel that makes a single note just sing to you and he can pull it off. His sense of melody and song development is also up to par with the great ones. Last, but not least, the production quality is just there… actually, it is better than other albums by much bigger guitar players. Often one has the feeling that they record these thing in a few days between tours and really don’t put in the effort it takes to make it sound just right, but that is most certainly not the case here. I am myself an accomplished guitar player, but I cannot play like this… a little bit of envy here, definitely…

Raimund Burke, diese 5meter große und verdammt tighte Sackratte, hat hier mal wieder ein überzeugendes, barockes Gitarren-Werk abgeliefert!
Schöne, groovende Oldschool-Riffs, gerne auch mit 80´s Spirit, liefern die Basis zu virtuos gespielten und sorgfältig durcharrangierten Soli.
Schön, dass hier einer ehrlich und treu geblieben ist!

Raimund Burke zieht auf seinem neuesten Meisterwerk mal wieder alle Register seines Könnens und zeigt, wie auch auf seinen vergangen Gitarrenalben, dass Instrumentalmusik niemals langweilig klingen muss. Der Schwerpunkt seiner Songs liegt ganz klar bei (Hard)Rock und dabei sind seine musikalischen Einflüsse von Michael Schenker, Gary Moore und Joe Satriani unüberhörbar. Und doch überrascht er den Zuhörer immer wieder mit völlig eigenen Melodiebögen und markanten Riffs, die in’s Ohr gehen.
Raimund Burke’s virtuoses und gefühlvolles Gitarrenspiel wird somit den allerletzten Kritiker davon überzeugen, dass es auch hierzulande Gitarristen mit Weltklasse-Format gibt. Ein kraftvolles und gefühlvolles Album mit vielseitigen Songs, von Ballade bis Up Tempo Nummer. Aber selbst vor Jerry Lewis’ legendärem “The Typewriter” machte der Gitarrenhexer nicht halt und beschließt das Album mit einem furiosen Zweikampf: Gitarre vs. Schreibmaschine. Und der Sieger steht dabei ganz eindeutig fest: Raimund Burke!

Selbst vor jazzig swingenden Anleihen macht der Gitarrenmeister keinen Halt und zeigt, dass Weihnachtslieder niemals langweilig klingen müssen. Bemerkenswert ist auch, dass er alle Instrumente selbst eingespielt, arrangiert, programmiert und gemischt hat.
Ein wirkliches kraftvolles, exzellent klingendes Christmas Guitar Album, dass mich rundum überzeugt hat! Doch Halt, einen Kritikpunkt gibt es doch: Schade, dass mich Raimund nicht zu einem Weihnachts-Solo eingeladen hat, hätte sicher mächtig Spaß gemacht. Maybe next time, Raimund… hohoho 😉

Raimund Burke müßte Gitarreninteressierten eigentlich schon längst ein Begriff sein, veröffnet der virtuose Hamburger doch ein mit internationalen Maßstäben locker mithaltendes Shredding-Album nach dem nächsten. Anders als bei vielen Kollegen seiner Zunft steht bei ihm die Melodie und nicht die musikalische Turnübung im Vordergrund, so daß auch Nicht-Gitarristen seinen Kompositionen durchaus etwas abgewinnen können müßten.
Und nun : Ein Weihnachtsalbum ! Wow, auch wenn sich mir bei dem Gedanken erst die Zehnägelkräuselten, muß ich nun doch sagen : “Good job !”
Eigene Kompositionen gibt es zwar nicht zu hören – Burke haucht den Standarts aber durchaus neue Impulse ein und über sein ausgezeichnetes Spiel müssen ohnehin nicht viele Worte verloren werden. Allen, die mal einen etwas anderen Soundtrack zur Bescherung hören möchten, sei dieses Album deshalb wärmstens ans Herz gelegt.

Sehr interessante Kompositionen. Was auffällt: Im Gegensatz zu vielen “High Speed-Shreddern” verfügt Raimund Burke über das Wichtigste überhaupt: einen guten Ton ( Vibrato ), was jetzt aber nicht heissen soll, daß keine schnellen Läufe auf der CD wären – im Gegenteil!
Zum “Schwindeligwerden” reicht´s absolut! Von Neo-Klassischem bis hin zu bluesigen Läufen ist alles dabei, was das Gitarristenherz begehrt!
Neben typischen “Malmsteenismen” sorgen Van Halen-artige American-Rock-Anleihen aber sogar auch Pantera-artige Riffs für Abwechslung.
Die beiden Vocal-Tracks (sehr guter Sänger !!!) machen Hunger auf mehr davon !

Daß, und wie der Raimund Gitarre spielen kann, weiß ich ja nu schon ‘n paar Jährchen länger! Aber – und dies sei hier mal in aller Deutlichkeit angemerkt – daß der freundliche,”größere” Herr aus dem hohen Norden alles aber auch wirklich ALLES alleine macht, erfindet, arrangiert, spielt, programmiert, aufnimmt, mischt, produziert etc. find ich schon reichlich unverschämt! 😉
Besonders in Anbetracht der Tatsache, daß dann auch noch verdammt coole Songs mit Seele und einer einfach nicht mehr zu toppenden musikalischen Finesse dabei herausgekommen sind, kann dem geneigten Betrachter schon mal das Mundwerk schließen.
Ich bin eigentlich kein besonders großer Fan dieser ganzen Gitarristen-Liga. Ich mag Steve Vai nicht, auch wenn hier gleich alle auf mich einschlagen. Ich mag allerdings die alten Malmsteen-Sachen sehr gern und ich bin ein großer Bewunderer von Joe Satriani, weil ich bei ihm das Gefühl habe, daß er mir was zu “erzählen” hat. Und genau das schafft Raimund mit seinem Gitarren-Spiel. Hier empfinde ich Jemanden, der mir nicht zeigen will, wie toll er Gitarre spielen kann, sonder Jemand, der sein ganzes Seelen-Leben vor mir auszubreiten vermag. Ich finde das im höchsten Maße bewundernswert! Von mir gibt’s Grüße, volle Punktzahl und Daumen hoch! 🙂
